Welcome to Native American Heritage Month at the Department of the Interior! National Native American Heritage Month is celebrated each year in November. It is a time to celebrate the traditions, languages and stories of Native American and Alaska Native communities and ensure their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation. This November and every month, we celebrate the culture and heritage of these remarkable Americans who deeply enrich the quality and character of our Nation. We celebrate Indian Country with its remarkable diversity of American Indian and Alaska Native cultures and peoples while remembering and honoring our veterans who have sacrificed so much to defend our Nation.
Our theme is Weaving together our past, present and future. We will focus on the failed policies of the past with a focus on the Federal Indian Boarding Schools and moving into the present and the work being done to address the intergenerational trauma Native people still face. In partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Smithsonian Institution, we are working to record the lasting impacts of that era and share that information with all Americans.
As Indigenous people, our past, present and future are all connected.
Around the District
Cafeteria Corner
// Our cafeteria staff proudly joined the celebration of Red Ribbon Week, showing our commitment to a drug-free world. To make the occasion extra special, we surprised our students with festive treats like Little Pumpkins and Frankenstein Applesauce. It was a joyful moment filled with smiles, laughter, and a strong message of health and positivity.
Together, we continue to support our students in making safe and healthy choices! //
Digital Design and Media Production
It has been truly delightful to drive around and see the Student of the Month yard signs in the yards of our Lackland ISD families. In fact, one family member mentioned that their neighbors approached them and commented, “that their child just raised the pride of the neighborhood with that sign.” What makes us even more proud is knowing that our students at Stacey Jr/Sr HS designed and produced those yard signs!!!! Under the strong leadership of Mrs. Cashion, our students are beginning their first year of a student-run print shop. The skills they are learning and the memories they are responsible for creating can’t be found in any textbook; they must be experienced.
Family Engagement
Lackland ISD strongly desires parent engagement. You have an opportunity to share your voice and help us actualize our vision to ignite a passion for life-long learning and empower excellence. As you engage as a parent, we also invite your participation in campus and district-level committees. Below are the descriptions for these committees for your consideration. If you have additional questions, each committee’s point of contact is listed with the committee description.
Please read each description and share your interest in supporting the committee or learning more about it.
Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.

The event brought together art, history, and community as students represented our school in this vibrant citywide celebration.
Dia de los Muertos
Mrs. Saario’s 6th grade students planned and designed altars to commemorate Día de los Muertos. They created beautiful displays honoring family members, sports stars, and even beloved pets.
Digital Design and Media Production

Library Scoop
Wow! What an exciting week! We had creative, colorful storybook pumpkins arriving every day! Currently, we have just over 140 pumpkin projects on display in the library. All of us have enjoyed the delight and creativity that this project has brought to school. Thank you, parents and families, for your participation. We will offer two other Family Literacy Projects this school year...and the next one will be a Holiday Book Ornament. More on that in the days ahead...
Students enjoyed a puppet show this week with Hedgehog trying to build a new house with a pumpkin. The pumpkin was so big, he needed the help of his friends to move it. This great story promotes teamwork and having friends, and students listened attentively to the retelling of this book with puppets after they voted for their favorite pumpkin.
We will announce our top three vote getters on Monday after we tally all of the votes. It will be a tough decision. Dr. Roper and Dr. Hyde came through to see our student projects and neither one could select just one winner. Smiling faces showed they loved them all!😊 So much fun!
We had lots of characters in the library and around campus for Red Ribbon Week. We saw a sea of red, crazy hair and socks, and tons of comfy pajama wearing friends, too. What a great reminder to just say "No!"
The Student-Teacher-School Compact is a shared agreement that outlines how students, families, and educators will work together to support academic success. This partnership highlights our shared responsibility for student learning by setting clear expectations for teachers, parents, and students. Together, we create a strong foundation that encourages achievement, accountability, and a positive learning environment.
Fall has officially arrived, even if the weather hasn't quite gotten the message! This is the perfect time in the semester to consider a couple of things:
Mid-Semester Check-In: We are just shy of the halfway mark for the first semester. It’s a good time to assess how things are going academically and socially for your child. The Parent /Teacher conference coming this month is a great tool for starting this conversation.
Fall Activities: October is ripe with opportunities for family activities—think pumpkin patches, apple picking, and fall festivals. These outings can be a great way to make memories and offer a fun break from the usual routine.
If you see our Speech team on campus, please give them a friendly wave of hello!
