Thanksgiving 2025

In the United States, it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Thanksgiving Day in 2025 will be on Thursday, November 27th.
The origin of Thanksgiving Day dates back to the early settlers in North America. In 1621, the Pilgrims who arrived on the famous ship Mayflower held a great feast of thanksgiving with the Wampanoag natives in what is now the state of Massachusetts, after having a successful harvest. This gesture of gratitude and brotherhood between settlers and natives laid the foundation for what we now know as Thanksgiving.
In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is one of the most important holidays of the year, marked by grand parades like the famous Macy's Parade in New York, charity drives for those in need, and, of course, the traditional family dinner where roast turkey takes center stage. Other typical dishes include mashed potatoescranberry saucestuffing, and the famous pumpkin pie.

ParentSquare

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.

ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:

*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents

For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications

Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.

Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.

The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

Library Scoop

What a wonderful, short week! Everyone was smiling, rested, and happy! We celebrated Kindness Day with red cardigans for Mr. Rogers.
Students thought about autumn leaves, Thanksgiving treats, and things they were thankful for in the library this week. Our third and fifth graders used their ideas to write thankfulness poems after hearing a great story about a family that had a fun football tradition. We talked about the many gifts we all enjoy to connect to the literature. Our younger Eagles heard about animals gathering and sharing food in a colorful book and wrote the word ,"Thanks." They drew a picture of something they are thankful for, too. Enjoy these cooler days with a walk outside and a book that makes you smile!
    Happy reading!😊

Gifted and Talented

gt

Hello Gifted Families! 🍂

November is here — a time for gratitude, reflection, and maybe even a little sweater weather (if Texas decides to cooperate)! As we move into the heart of the semester, here are a few things to keep in mind:
✨ Mid-Semester Check-In
We’re just past the halfway mark of the semester! Parent-Teacher Conferences this month are a great opportunity to check in on how your child is doing — not just academically, but socially and emotionally, too. These conversations can help ensure your gifted learner continues to feel challenged, supported, and inspired.
🍁 Seasonal Family Fun
November is perfect for slowing down and enjoying meaningful family moments — baking together, exploring local history, volunteering, or even starting a gratitude journal as a family. These simple experiences can spark curiosity, empathy, and deep thinking in your child.
💡 GT Referral Reminder
The Gifted and Talented referral window is still open through the end of November! If you think your child may benefit from GT services, please complete the referral form below:
Wishing you a warm, reflective, and joy-filled November full of learning and gratitude!

The Fix-It Challenge
Identify a small problem at home
(something inefficient, annoying, or
messy). Brainstorm and test a solution
using only items in your house.
Tip: Encourage learners to take risks and
try unexpected ideas to find a solution.

Clarity
Gifted learners often excel in academics, but giftedness goes beyond grades and test scores. It includes how they think, feel, and perceive the world. These children often process information quickly, make complex connections, and ask thought-provoking questions. Recognizing these traits at home can help you support their curiosity, even if it doesn’t always show up as straight A’s.
