Attendance Matters

Dear Parents and Guardians, At Lackland ISD, we are committed to providing every student with the highest quality education and the opportunities they need to succeed. One of the most important factors in student success is consistent, daily school attendance. Regular attendance helps students build strong academic foundations, develop positive habits, and stay connected to their teachers and peers. When students miss school, even occasionally, they can fall behind in learning and may struggle to catch up. Over time, missed instructional time can have a significant impact on student achievement, graduation readiness, and long-term success. We have recently seen a decline in student attendance across our district, and we need your partnership and support to help reverse this trend. Your encouragement and commitment to ensuring your child attends school every day, on time, makes a meaningful difference. In Texas, student attendance is also directly tied to school funding. School districts receive funding based on daily student attendance. When students are absent, it not only affects their individual learning but also reduces resources that support teachers, academic programs, student services, and extracurricular opportunities for all students. While daily attendance is critical, student health and safety remain a top priority. If your child is sick, please keep them at home so they can recover and to help prevent the spread of illness to others. Once they are well, we encourage them to return to school as soon as possible and communicate with their campus to make up any missed work. Working together, we can ensure that our students are present, engaged, and prepared for success. Thank you for your continued partnership, support, and commitment to your child’s education and to the success of our entire school community. If you have questions or need assistance with attendance concerns, please contact your child’s campus. We are here to help. Sincerely,
Dr. Burnie Roper Superintendent |
