Parent Square Notifications

Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.

Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.

Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.

Stacey Flashback: Ethan Leija

by: Jack DeLambo, 10th grade
leija
Ethan graduated from Stacey back in 2021. He is a deputy in the Bexar County Sheriff's Department.

1. When did you graduate from Stacey?
I graduated from Stacey in 2021 and went straight to college for 2 years.

2. What is your best memory of going to school here?
My best memory of attending school at Stacey probably has to be the pep rallies. No matter where you were, we were all able to get together. I got some of the best photos from pep rallies of my friends and I.

3. How many years did you attend Lackland ISD?
I attended Lackland ISD for all four years while I was in high school. I know many students can't say the same, but I made lots of friends and now we all travel to see each other.

4. What do you do now?
After attending Northwest Vista College, I graduated with my Associate's degree. On January 5th, 2024 I was hired by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and was in class 2025 Alpha then went straight to the streets. Since then, I have been on Patrol on the county's west side. I even come to Lackland to pick up wanted people when they come in the gate.

6. What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is definitely chasing stolen cars and getting into chases. On the other hand, helping people when their lives are in danger or having a medical emergency is great. Life is short, and when the person sees you again and tells you " You saved my life” it feels really good knowing that I made a difference.

7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to Paris. I'm definitely going to go, now getting the time off is the only thing stopping me.

8. Who is your favorite musician?
My favorite Musician is Ella Langley right now.

9. What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Ford vs. Ferrari.

10. What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is definitely Chinese food, I could eat Mongolian beef everyday if I could.

11. What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I like to sleep but when I am free, I like to go to the gym and try new restaurants every week. After a long work week you definitely have to reward yourself.

Thank you, Ethan!

Library Scoop

Spring has sprung! We are noticing the green grass, birds tweeting, and a few flowers showing their faces! Our students enjoyed a lesson with our counselors this week and talked about calming strategies when their feelings are big. I caught some readers at the end of recess, too. Love it!

We are getting ready for our spring Book Fair with Literati. This publisher comes out of Austin with fabulous books and even some non-fiction for our curious readers. There are a few pencils and erasers for sale, as well. A flyer was sent home with all of our students to offer some more details. Students will shop during their special's day or after school during our family nights. You are also invited to check out their entire collection of books on their website where the on-line Book Fair for Lackland has already begun...We welcome Literati gift cards, cash, and credit card payments. A big thank you to some of our PTSO Moms that came in this week to help staple our flyers together! Happy reading!

Gifted & Talented Spring Update

Dear Gifted and Talented Families,
Spring is always a season of energy and momentum, and our GT classrooms are no exception. As the year continues, students are diving deeper into complex thinking, meaningful discussions, and creative challenges that stretch their ideas in exciting ways.
Academically, learners are engaging in higher-level questioning, problem-solving, and opportunities that encourage them to analyze, evaluate, and create. We are intentionally designing experiences that allow students to think beyond the obvious, make connections across subjects, and defend their ideas with confidence.
Equally important is our continued focus on social-emotional growth. Gifted learners often experience learning intensely, and we are supporting them in building resilience, managing big feelings, and strengthening collaboration skills. Encouraging healthy risk-taking and embracing productive struggle remain important parts of their development.
You can continue supporting your child’s growth at home by:
• Asking thoughtful “why” and “how” questions that spark deeper conversations.
• Celebrating effort and perseverance, not just outcomes.
• Encouraging independent projects connected to their interests.
• Helping them reflect on both successes and setbacks as opportunities to grow.
Gifted education is not just about moving ahead—it’s about growing deeper. Together, we can continue creating experiences that challenge, inspire, and empower our students to reach their full potential.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
With appreciation,
LISD Gifted & Talented Service
Vickie Johnson

GT Tip of the Month: Celebrate Productive Struggle

Gifted learners often enjoy getting things “right.” Because of this, they may avoid tasks that feel difficult or unfamiliar. This month, focus on helping your child understand that challenge is not a sign of weakness — it’s a sign of growth.
Try saying:
“I love how you stuck with that.”
“What strategy could you try next?”

“What did you learn from that mistake?”

When students learn to embrace challenge, they build resilience, confidence, and deeper thinking skills. Growth happens when learning feels just a little uncomfortable.

Parents if your child has autism, consider attending the 2 upcoming parent virtual sessions. The topics are related to technology use in the home - the first session will be strategies for parents to manage children's screen time and the second session will be how to use technology at home to promote executive functioning, communication, and social skills.  (More details are on the flyer.)

Meet our Lackland ISD School Psychologists, Gentry Ghandour, Nancy Garcia, and Marisol Murphree! School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.
